That’s why we’ve done more than just give you a list of links to low-cost MBA programs. Instead, we went through each qualifying program and built up a profile of top-line points cataloging the unique factors that make them stand out in the value department.
We list admission exam requirements, the availability of online courses and other options that contribute to convenience and flexibility, prerequisite requirements, and ratings from reputable outside evaluators. How We Assessed and Rated the Relative Cost of Each Program
As a future MBA, you’re naturally going to have a few questions about our data and definitions, not to mention the analysis process that we put into the final listings.
Total Program Cost
First, we didn’t mess around with per-credit tuition rates when establishing the cost of the program since inconsistencies arise from the fact that the number of credits can vary considerably from one program to the next. A look at cost on an annual basis also makes for a tricky comparison, with some schools structuring programs in accordance with a conventional semester model, while others build their programs to fit a quarter or trimester system. Instead, we went with total estimated program cost—a more apples-to-apples point of comparison that gives a more accurate picture of the total out-of-pocket expenses.
The Best Priced Programs for Each of the Three Major Accreditors
To stay on theme with the like-to-like comparison model, we then found the average tuition rate in each state according to accreditation agency. This means we only compared MBAs offered by AACSB-accredited business schools to the MBAs at other schools with AACSB-accreditation to find the lowest cost programs the agency recognizes. The same process was repeated for programs accredited by ACBSP and IACBE, giving you a true cross section of the best-priced programs in each state recognized by all three of these esteemed accreditors.
Since each accreditor has a focus on a slightly different type of program and prioritizes different qualities in them, you’ll find that each caters to a particular class of schools. Naturally you’d want to compare programs within those categories, so that’s how we lined them up.
In cases where there is just one business school or MBA in a given state that is accredited, and the cost of tuition is in a range we consider reasonable, we went ahead and included it to help provide the entire landscape of options.
