What We Do
As an energy consultant, you will work with the engineering team and sales manager to develop new customer or project contracts. You will also record all the relevant data in relation to energy consumption. Furthermore, you will look for areas of improvement in terms of sustainability and hold presentations about this. Finally, you will link sustainable energy and commitments to the green agenda to marketing and public relations.
Work Environment
Energy consultants have unusual days. They often travel a lot, having to visit multiple sites. This can include international trips, particularly with larger companies. They also often have to work unsocial hours and overtime is very common.
How to Become
Becoming an energy consultant is down to a number of skills. A passion for sustainability is important, but so is having excellent communication skills and particularly public speaking.
Training & Certification Requirements
You will need at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in an earth science related field such as environmental engineering. Experience working within the energy sector is also preferred.
